EarthPress platform: Leveraging AI and earth observation methods for real-time disaster monitoring & automated news synthesis for journalists

In an era of rapidly evolving news cycles, journalists require more than traditional sources to process and analyze large volumes of data efficiently and accurately.

The presentation seeks to present a new web-based platform, called EarthPress, which is a cutting-edge platform designed to facilitate disaster reporting. It combines Earth Observation (EO) data, AI-driven analytics, and Large Language Models (LLMs), to automate the process of gathering, and analyzing critical information from multiple sources—satellite imagery, news articles, and social media.

From the analysis of all the collected data, the most significant disastrous events are extracted. For each event EO images before and after of its occurrence are being retrieved from Copernicus and are being analysed to extract statistical information such as the percentage of the affected area and its type. Through EarthPress, the end-users have the ability to select one of the detected events, and receive to view the available information referring to this event, or to automatically generate a personalized article.

The objective of this presentation is to present live the EarthPress platform and empower journalists and editors with cutting-edge tools that enhance disaster reporting and facilitate the data collection and report generation process.
