Virtual Journalism Forum, by iMEdD.

On February 17-19 we introduced a virtual Journalism Forum, aiming within 3 days to reflect on how this year affected journalism, to get acquainted with tools and techniques that help reform the industry, but also to discuss the restart of journalism. Through panels, flash sessions, lectures, interviews, workshops, the SNF Dialogues and the Avant-Première of the first documentary produced by iMEdD, participants had the opportunity to get informed, to reflect, to exchange views and to get in touch with professionals and academics from Greece and abroad.

iMEdD is a non profit organization founded in 2018 with the exclusive donation of Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF). Our mission is to support and promote the transparency, credibility and independence in journalism on the grounds of securing meritocracy and excellence in the field. The Organization follows international standards and works closely with the local and global academic community as well as other similar international organizations and high profile professionals worldwide. The venture includes six directions, the ideas Zone, the incubator, the Lab, the Bridge, Inside the Box and Out of the Box.

Avant-Première: "PARONTES" Documentary Film (Greece, 2021, 75min.) dir. Yorgos Avgeropoulos

EventID: 865-961-329

Almost a year after the global pandemic hit Greece, iMEdD (incubator for media education and development) and SmallPlanet, in collaboration with dozens of creators, journalists, photojournalists and technicians, present Yorgos Avgeropoulos’ new documentary entitled "Parontes" (Present).

The film, which evolved from the homonymous multimedia project launched by iMEdD in April 2020, unfolds against the backdrop of the public healthcare system and follows the prominent figures at the forefront of the COVID-19 response, as well as the unsung heroes of the pandemic.

Political decisions and backroom maneuvers come under the microscope and are juxtaposed with the struggles of those who bear the brunt of the new crisis on a daily basis. Through the Greek experience, Avgeropoulos manages to capture a universal reality and poses critical questions about the post-Covid era the world is entering.

SNF DIALOGUES "Parontes" (Present): Is the news on lockdown?

EventID: 762-077-429

An SNF DIALOGUES webcast with Yorgos Avgeropoulos and the journalists, photographers, and filmmakers, who participated in the production of the iMEdD documentary "Parontes" (Present).

Isolation, fear, and the need to manage the biggest health crisis in modern history have shaped both the content of the news and how it is reported, in a year lived under the shadow of COVID-19. SNF DIALOGUES held an open discussion between journalists and the public on the current state of journalism and the challenges facing the transmission of reliable news in the midst of a societal state of emergency. The starting point for the online discussion was the avant-première of the documentary “Parontes” (Present) by Yorgos Avgeropoulos, iMEdD’s inaugural documentary production.

The SNF DIALOGUES webcast followed the film screening, featuring Yorgos Avgeropoulos, and a group of well-known journalists, photographers, and filmmakers, who contributed to the production of “Parontes”, and also collaborated with a broad group of contributors, for iMEdD’s multi-dimensional April 2020 project “Parontes”, engaging with each other and online viewers in a live discussion.

The DIALOGUES are curated and moderated by Anna-Kynthia Bousdoukou.
