Arena for Journalism in Europe supports collaborative journalism – journalists working together across geographical borders, and journalists working across professional borders with scholars, scientists, and with civil society.

Attending the Μedia Village will be:

  • Trine Smistrup, Deputy director of Arena for Journalism in Europe
Smistrup Trine

Trine is a journalist, co-founder and deputy director of Arena for Journalism in Europe, deputy director of Dataharvest – the European Investigative Journalism conference. Trine has worked with journalism and training for journalists in Denmark, the Nordic countries, and Russia, and was involved in the SCOOP project, a peer-to-peer program for investigative journalism in Eastern Europe and Russia. Her special interest is making difficult subjects interesting and understandable for readers. She also holds a master’s degree in digital communications.

  • Deborah Meibergen, IT coordinator Collaborative Desk
Meibergen Deborah

Deborah is a seasoned project and operations manager, IT coordinator and security awareness trainer. Next to managing projects and operations, she also has experience with writing and implementing information security policies and (technical) documentation. Self-taught, Deborah has worked in the arts, digital rights, information security, cyber security and FOSS community for more than 20 years. As an activist, she’s vocal about human rights, inequality, digital security and privacy, especially important in this age of surveillance capitalism.

  • Jelena Prtorić, Journalist
Prtoric Jelena

Jelena is a freelance journalist from Croatia, currently based in Berlin, Germany. She is working in English, French, and Croatian and her topics of interest include the environment/climate, migration, press freedom, and women’s rights. As of 2020, she is a member Arena for Journalism in Europe team, where she first set up and coordinated the Arena Climate Network. She is now the director of Dataharvest - the European Investigative Journalism conference, and pursues investigative journalism work within the Arena Climate network and beyond.
