Editor-in-chief at Are We Europe

Anneleen Ophoff is the editor-in-chief of Are We Europe magazine, an independent magazine which aims to break down borders in the ever-changing European continent.

After earning a degree in journalism, she has worked as a crossmedia journalist since 2012. Anneleen's extensive experience in the media industry includes creating multimedia stories for VRT News and short documentaries Vice News, lecturing at Thomas More University-College and KASK School of Arts, and worked as the Head of Multimedia at Are We Europe before taking on the role of editor-in-chief. In this role, she has worked on magazines on queer experiences and land rights, went beyond the headlines on the Russian war in Ukraine and investigated the place of legal drugs in our everyday lives. Anneleen has received several awards and recognition for her work, including receiving the Belfius Press Prize, the Fulbright and University of Missouri Journalism Award, and the Society of Professional Journalism’s Mark of Excellence Award. Her favourite thing about working for an independent magazine is the smell of freshly printed paper and help up-and-coming writers tell their stories. In addition to her work at Are We Europe, Anneleen continues to do in-depth journalistic work on a freelance basis.
